The addition of a community library in Dulles South will immediately add 160,000 books and 40,000 square feet of library space to the Loudoun County Public Library System. The additional books and space will allow the Loudoun County Public Library to meet the Virginia Library Association’s Standard of Services adopted by the Loudoun County Board of Supervisors. The Gum Spring Library will provide the much needed professional staff, books and materials that will encourage children to become lifelong readers. Teens and older adults will have access to a welcoming environment of information and all community members will have a world of technology waiting for them at the library.
Construction of Gum Spring Library:
- Loudoun County’s largest developer/county government partnership.
- Van Metre Companies will deed the first two floors (40,000 sq. ft.) to Loudoun County for Gum Spring Library.
- Van Metre Companies will break ground on a four story shell in 2007
Location/Access of Gum Spring Library:
- Located on Stone Springs Boulevard and Route 50.
- Will be set in an environmentally enriched area.
- Will have two entrances – one for the upper floor businesses and one for the library
Budget Status of Gum Spring Library:
- Loudoun County Board of Supervisors approved finishing the entire 40,000 sf Gum Spring Library at a cost of $10.5 million.
- The November 6 bond referendum will be for $7.13 million. The remaining funds will be derived from cash proffers.
- Library opens 2008.
