Voting Information
All Loudoun County residents ages 18 and older are eligible
to vote in county elections. Voters must first register with
the General Registrar’s office, which offers year-round
voter registration for general, primary, and special
elections in conjunction with various public service
agencies, military recruitment offices and the Virginia
Department of Motor Vehicles (DMV). In order to be
eligible to vote in the November General Election on
Tuesday, November 6, 2007, you must have registered to vote no
later than 5:00 p.m. on Tuesday, October 9.
Applications may also be obtained at all Loudoun County
public libraries and community centers. Voter registration
applications are now available at DMV locations during
regular business hours. Applications may be submitted in
person or by mail. A voter registration form is available on the
Virginia State Board of Elections website.
The General Registrar's office also supplies absentee
ballots to eligible voters upon request.
Elections for county offices and ballot initiatives are
generally held on the Tuesday following the first Monday in
November and, for town elections, on the first Tuesday in May.

The Electoral Board is composed of three appointed members
who are responsible for running elections in the county,
including hiring pollworkers, choosing polling places,
printing ballots, maintaining financial reports of candidates,
and organizing election procedures.

Election Equipment
Our
primary voting equipment is the Diebold AccuVote Optical
Scanner, which uses a marked paper ballot read by a light
reader. One optical scanner is placed in every
polling place. Our Help America Vote Act (HAVA)-mandated
voting equipment is the Diebold AccuVote Touchscreen (TSX).
One TSX also is placed in every polling place. HAVA
mandates that every polling place have an Americans with
Disabilities (ADA)- compliant piece of voting equipment in
every polling place.
