The Department of General Services manages county facilities,
which includes maintenance of
county buildings, facility planning, leasing of space, maintenance of stormwater systems,
and erecting of street name signs; and oversees the county's Capital Improvements Program.
Scope of Services
While the Department of General Services directly serves
the various agencies of the Loudoun County Government,
indirectly we serve the residents and visitors of Loudoun by
providing and maintaining many public facilities.
The design, construction and maintenance of facilities such
as libraries, fire stations, group homes, as well as the main
government office building, are the responsibility of this
department.
The department is also responsible for providing and
maintaining the county government fleet of vehicles. This
fleet includes staff passenger vehicles, transport buses as
well as the various vehicles required by the Sheriff’s
Department.
The department administers the
federal/state-mandated Stormwater Management Program. As the
population of the county grows, certain criteria
pertaining to the quality and quantity of storm water runoff
must be met. The eastern part of Loudoun County (the urbanized
area of the county) has been included by the Environmental
Protection Agency and the Commonwealth of Virginia in those
areas requiring discharge permits under the National
Pollutant Discharge Elimination System (NPDES) Phase II
requirements. Environmental control of the quality of the
runoff is essential to the overall health of our people and
our natural resources.
The department also has a responsibility for the
maintenance of street signs that are not located within any of
the seven incorporated Towns. Maintenance of the five miles of
county-owned public roadways are also included.
