Bicycle & Pedestrian Information
Bicyclists in Loudoun County are fortunate to have trails
such as the Washington & Old Dominion (W&OD) trail and
smaller recreational trail systems, including those in
Cascades, Countryside and Ashburn. The county encourages the
use of bicycle lockers at park-and-ride lots, such as those
at the Dulles North Transit Center. Also, Loudoun Transit
buses are equipped with bicycle racks.
Every year, usually in May, the Office of Transportation
Services sponsors Bike to Work Day in cooperation
with the Metropolitan Washington Council of Governments and
the Washington Area Bicyclist Association. The event
promotes bicycling as a clean, healthy commute.
Many local businesses participate by sponsoring morning "pit
stops," where bicyclists can enjoy food, fun and prizes. The
pit stops in Loudoun are along the W&OD Trail, in Sterling,
just east of Route 28 near Orbital, and in Leesburg at Raflo
Park on Harrison Street.
Loudoun County also has many pedestrian trails located in
parks throughout the county. More information is available
online.
