The Howard Hughes Medical Institute's Janelia Farm
Research Campus (JFRC) is open for discovery! Loudoun
County enthusiastically welcomes JFRC to our community.
World renown scientists will study how the brain
processes information and will create tools such as
microscopes and computer programs to better create and
analyze images. In the words of Gerald M. Rubin,
Director of JFRC, "we could not have chosen a better
location" and that "we have space to create a unique,
world-class scientific community in a friendly
environment with top-notch schools and access to the
resources of the capital region." Two scientists at JFRC
have already invented a new microscope so powerful that
it allows scientists who are peering inside of cells to
determine the exact location of nearly each individual
protein being studied. Other groundbreaking discoveries
